IGP Deploys Armoured Vehicles To Nkwanta After Deadly Attacks

The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has ordered the deployment of heavy security reinforcements to Nkwanta in the Oti Region following renewed violent attacks that left five people dead. Two armoured vehicles, along with personnel from the National Police Operations, were dispatched to the area on Wednesday night to restore order and prevent further escalation.

The swift intervention follows reports of fresh ethnic violence in the Nkwanta South Municipality, which resulted in the deaths of three males and two females.
A joint team made up of the Police, Military, Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), Defence Intelligence and the Ghana National Fire Service recovered the bodies from two separate locations.
Police say calm has since been restored in the area after the reinforcement.
Investigations are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the attacks and to identify those responsible.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information, while warning against the spread of misinformation that could heighten tensions.
The statement was signed by the Oti Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police, John Nchor.
