Two Scrap Dealers Lynched Over Alleged Child Theft

Two scrap dealers have been lynched by a mob at Ntensere in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District following allegations of attempted child theft.

The victims, identified as Alhassan and Nagolo, were reportedly in the community to purchase scrap materials when residents accused them of trying to steal a child.

According to reports, the situation quickly escalated into mob action, with the two men beaten to death. Their motorcycle was also set ablaze by the attackers.

The Unit Committee Vice Chairperson for Ntensere, Saramatu Zackaria, confirmed the incident, stating that she was attending a wedding when she received a distress call about the attack.

She indicated that by the time she arrived at the scene, the victims had already been killed.

Residents claimed the two men attempted to abduct a three-year-old child, which triggered the violent reaction. However, Madam Zackaria condemned the act and called for a thorough police investigation.

The incident has drawn the attention of the Ashanti Regional Scrap Dealers Association, whose members visited the scene to assess the situation.

President of the Association, Alhaji Abdulai Gagala, expressed concern over the growing trend of attacks on scrap dealers, noting that many are targeted based on unverified allegations.

He called for justice for the deceased and urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, warning that innocent people could easily fall victim to such acts.

Police have since launched investigations into the incident, while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue for autopsy.
