23-Year-Old Dies in Aboboyaa Crash
A 23-year-old man, Kingsley Kwaku Atta, has died following a fatal accident involving a timber-laden tricycle, popularly known as aboboyaa, at Okyerekrom in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.
The deceased was reportedly riding as a pillion passenger on the tricycle, which was heavily loaded with about 20 logs of timber, when the accident occurred.
Reports indicate that the tricycle was travelling from Bayerebon Number 5 towards Antwi Adjei Nkwanta when the rider lost control on a rough stretch of the road, resulting in the crash.
The Assembly Member for the area, Alexander Akwasi Yeboah, confirmed the incident and attributed it to overloading and the poor condition of the road.
“A group of young men had loaded the tricycle with timber and were heading towards Antwi Adjei Nkwanta when the rider lost control upon reaching a bad portion of the road,” he explained.
He added that the rider and another injured victim were rushed to the Nyinahin Government Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Mr. Yeboah expressed concern over the rising number of such incidents in the area, warning that the misuse of aboboyaa continues to pose a serious threat to lives.
He has therefore urged the youth to exercise caution and strictly adhere to safety measures, particularly by avoiding overloading and unsafe handling of tricycles.
