Chief Demands Apology from Pastor Over Remarks Against National House of Chiefs President

A traditional ruler of the Anhwiaso Traditional Council, Nana Kwasi Ato Ware II, has called on a pastor of Truth Faith Church to retract what he described as distasteful, offensive and unethical comments made against Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, President of the National House of Chiefs.

The call follows a viral video circulating on social media in which Pastor Koomson was seen on TikTok alleging that the President of the National House of Chiefs has not undertaken any development projects since assuming office.

Reacting to the development, Nana Ato Ware stated that such remarks undermine the dignity and integrity of the chieftaincy institution. He therefore urged the pastor to retract his statements and render an unqualified apology.

He stressed that the chieftaincy institution plays a crucial role in Ghana’s traditional governance system, particularly in dispute resolution and the preservation of cultural heritage. According to him, public attacks on its leadership threaten respect for traditional authority.

Nana Ato Ware further lamented that such criticisms from some religious and political figures risk eroding public confidence in chiefs and weakening national unity. He noted that Ghana’s governance framework thrives on collaboration between modern political structures and traditional leadership.

Condemning the pastor’s remarks, he described them as “palpable falsehoods” that are damaging to the reputation of the revered overlord. He added that the re-election of Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II as President of the National House of Chiefs is clear evidence of his impactful leadership and achievements.

Highlighting some of these accomplishments, Nana Ato Ware cited the establishment of Queens Girls Senior High School, the construction of dormitories and laboratories for several senior high schools, and the provision of sanitary facilities in Bibiani, Agona Nkwanta and Mankessim through the GNPC Foundation.

He also mentioned scholarship schemes for brilliant but needy students, as well as apprenticeship programmes aimed at empowering the youth.

Nana Ato Ware further called on the leadership of Truth Faith Church to take disciplinary action against the pastor, including possible demotion or excommunication.

He concluded by advocating for a cordial relationship between the church and traditional authorities, referencing the biblical principle: “Give unto Caesar what belongs to Caesar.”
