28 Foreigners, Landlord Arrested in Amansie West Immigration Crackdown
A coordinated security operation in the Amansie West District has resulted in the arrest of 28 foreign nationals and a landlord for allegedly breaching Ghana’s immigration regulations.
The exercise, carried out jointly by the District Assembly, officers of the Ghana Immigration Service and the Police, targeted suspected hideouts at Pakyi No.1 and Pakyi No.2. The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the district authorities to clamp down on illegal immigration and other related unlawful activities in the area.
The suspects were picked up during the raid and are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Amansie West, Hon. Prince Manu Morris, speaking to journalists after the operation, cautioned landlords within the district to exercise due diligence before renting out their properties.
According to him, property owners have a responsibility to verify the identity and legal status of tenants before offering them accommodation.
“It is against the laws of Ghana to harbour undocumented immigrants. Landlords must therefore ensure they properly check the documents of people they rent their properties to,” he stressed.
Hon. Morris further indicated that the Assembly would not tolerate any activity that threatens the peace and security of the district.
He assured residents that the Assembly would continue to collaborate with the relevant security agencies to strictly enforce immigration regulations.
The landlord implicated in the case is also assisting the police with investigations and is expected to face charges for allegedly renting out his property to undocumented immigrants.
Hon. Morris also urged residents to support the fight against illegal immigration by reporting suspicious activities to the authorities.
“Security is a shared responsibility. With the support of the public, we can ensure that our district remains safe and secure for everyone,” he added.
