Gunfire at Hiawu Besease Funeral Leaves Two Injured

A 19-year-old pregnant woman and a schoolgirl have been injured by a stray bullet during a funeral ceremony at Hiawu Besease.
The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Thursday during the funeral of the late queen mother of the community, Nana Abena Moku. Eyewitnesses said a suspect was firing sporadically into the air when a stray bullet struck the victims.
The pregnant woman has been identified as Serwaa Alice. In an interview with SWIFTNEWS3, her sister Abigail said they were inside their home when they suddenly heard gunshots. “We rushed outside and were later informed by a relative that my sister had been hit,” she said.
The stray bullet also reportedly struck a young schoolgirl. Both victims are currently receiving medical treatment.
Alice was first taken to a nearby CHPS compound for initial care before being referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further treatment. Doctors are preparing to perform surgery to remove her unborn baby, who reportedly died as a result of the gunshot injury.
The Unit Committee Chairman for the Hiawu Besease Electoral Area, Emmanuel Asante, said there was a heavy police presence in the community at the time of the incident, but no arrest had been made.
The family is appealing to the authorities to intervene and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
