The District Chief Executive for the Atwima Kwanwoma District, Hon. Grace Agyemang Asamoah, has urged residents to unite and work collectively to advance the development of the district and the country.

She made the call when she addressed the district’s 69th Independence Day celebration held at the Ampabame No. 1 School Park in the Ashanti Region.

According to her, the anniversary is an important moment for citizens to reflect on the sacrifices of Ghana’s forefathers who fought for the nation’s freedom under the leadership of Kwame Nkrumah.

Hon. Asamoah explained that this year’s theme, “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” underscores the need for the country’s independence to translate into meaningful development and improved living standards for citizens.

She noted that the government under John Dramani Mahama remains committed to implementing policies that will improve infrastructure, create jobs and promote inclusive development across the country.

Touching on development projects in the district, the DCE disclosed that several roads including the Nwinsa–Nkwanta–Amoato stretch, as well as roads at Kotwi, Biragokrom, Asaago and Bekwaime–Ky ekyewere have been reshaped to improve transportation and economic activities.

She added that the Ampabame No. 1 Bridge has also been renovated and maintained to ensure the smooth movement of people and goods.

Hon. Asamoah further revealed that sixteen mechanized boreholes have been constructed in various communities to provide residents with access to potable water.

In the education sector, she indicated that the Assembly reshaped the compound of Afua Kobi Ampem Girls’ Senior High School to improve accessibility and the learning environment.

She said the construction of a three-unit classroom block at New Ejuampong is ongoing while another six-unit classroom block project at Afasiebon Basic School has been awarded.

The DCE also donated sanitary pads to female students of Afua Kobi Ampem Girls’ SHS to support menstrual hygiene and ensure that girls remain comfortable and confident in school.

In the health sector, she disclosed that three Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds are under construction at Asaago, Nweneso No. 1 and Nweneso No. 3 to improve healthcare delivery in the district.

She also encouraged residents to regularly check their health status to prevent diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cervical cancer and breast cancer.

On agriculture, the DCE noted that the Assembly implemented the Nkokonkitinkiti Project, through which 5,000 chickens were distributed to 118 households to support poultry farming, particularly among women and the youth.

She added that 9,000 oil palm seedlings were also distributed to farmers to boost agricultural production.

On sanitation, Hon. Asamoah said seven refuse dump sites have been evacuated while skip containers and sanitation equipment have been supplied to the district’s 33 electoral areas. She also disclosed that 60 dustbins have been distributed to basic schools, with plans to supply more to communities.

She further highlighted the importance of Ashantifest in promoting culture, tourism and economic activities within the Ashanti Region.

The Member of Parliament for the constituency, Kofi Amankwa-Manu, in his remarks called on residents to set aside partisan politics and unite for the development of the district.

The event was attended by several dignitaries including former District Chief Executives, Nana Okyere Tawiah Antwi, Prince Karikari, traditional rulers, clergy and Muslim leaders in the district.

The celebration ended on a lively note when Hon. Grace Agyemang Asamoah thrilled the crowd with energetic Adowa dance moves to music performed by pupils of Trede D/A JHS.

She was joined by Nana Boakye Amamam, Kontihene of Ampabame I, and Nana Ama Tawiah, Otumfuo Takyehene, drawing loud cheers from the audience.
