Choose Competence Over Fluency – Wontumi Charges NPP Executives
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has urged party executives in the Western Region to place competence and strategic leadership above fluency in English when electing the party’s next National Chairman.
Addressing party executives and supporters in the region, Chairman Wontumi stressed that the NPP needs a battle-ready leader who understands grassroots politics and is prepared to spearhead the party’s quest to recapture power in 2028.
“This election is not about grammar or certificates. It is about tested leadership, grassroots strength and someone who is ready to work tirelessly for victory,” he told the gathering.
He appealed to delegates to evaluate him based on his performance and commitment to the party rather than academic credentials. “Don’t judge me based on my certificate, but on my competency and what I can do to grow the party,” he emphasised.
According to him, the NPP is at a crucial stage following its 2024 electoral defeat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and what the party requires now is renewed hope, unity and strategic mobilisation.
Chairman Wontumi expressed strong optimism about the party’s chances in 2028, pledging to work closely with the grassroots across all constituencies to ensure victory. He reiterated his commitment to helping Mahamudu Bawumia secure the presidency in the next general election.
“As National Chairman, my focus will not be limited to the party headquarters. My priority will be the constituencies — working with the people, mobilising support and ensuring we bring every vote on board,” he stated.
Highlighting his political journey, Wontumi noted that serving as a two-term Constituency Chairman and an unprecedented three-term Ashanti Regional Chairman has equipped him with the experience and resilience required for the national role.
Earlier, the Western Regional Chairman of the NPP, Nana Francis Ndede Siah, described Wontumi as a true grassroots politician whose dedication and loyalty to the party make him deserving of massive support.
