Odoom Elected Obuasi Presiding Member

The Assembly Member for the New Nsuta “Auntie Bee” Electoral Area, Hon. David Mensah Odoom, has been elected Presiding Member of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA) in a decisive and widely endorsed vote.

Hon. Odoom secured 24 out of the 27 valid votes cast in a smooth and transparent election conducted at the Assembly. He contested the position with the Assembly Member for the Anyinam Electoral Area, Hon. Solomon Amoako Acheampong, who obtained three votes. There were no spoilt or rejected ballots.
The 30-member Assembly is made up of 19 elected Assembly Members, nine Government Appointees, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and the Member of Parliament, who has no voting rights in the election of the Presiding Member. Two members were absent during the exercise.

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Odoom expressed appreciation to his colleague members for the confidence reposed in him. He also acknowledged the support of the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin, the Municipal Coordinating Director, the outgoing Presiding Member and the people of New Nsuta “Auntie Bee” for their encouragement.
He called for unity and collaboration among members to drive the development agenda of the municipality.
“I have come to serve and not to be served,” he stressed, pledging to uphold selfless leadership and inclusive governance.
Hon. Odoom outlined plans to renovate the Assembly Hall to create a conducive environment for meetings and deliberations. He also proposed the display of portraits of past Presiding Members in the hall to honour their contributions and preserve the Assembly’s institutional memory.
Congratulating the new Presiding Member, the MCE, Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin, urged Assembly Members to continue working together in the interest of development. She noted that development is a shared responsibility and assured members of her commitment and that of the management team to deliver on their mandate.

The election was conducted by officials of the Electoral Commission, led by the Municipal Electoral Officer, Mr. Ebenezer Osei Tutu, who served as the Returning Officer. He subsequently declared Hon. David Mensah Odoom duly elected.
The new Presiding Member was sworn into office by His Worship Kofi Wusu Sekyere, marking the official commencement of his tenure.
His election is expected to usher in renewed unity and strengthened local governance in Obuasi.
