Nkawie Police Arrest Four For Impersonating National Security In Fake Anti-Galamsey Operations

The Nkawie Divisional Police Command has arrested four individuals for allegedly posing as national security operatives to carry out unauthorized anti-galamsey activities in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

According to police sources, the suspects allegedly stormed several mining sites within the municipality, where they stopped miners and extorted money under the pretext of enforcing anti-illegal mining laws.

Three members of the group reportedly presented themselves as national security personnel and were said to be wielding a private pump-action gun to intimidate their victims during the operations.

Police investigations have further identified a pickup vehicle used by the suspects as the official vehicle of the NDC Chairman for the Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency, Simon Alolga. Authorities say they are working to establish how the vehicle was used in the alleged unlawful activities.

Impersonating security officers remains a serious criminal offence, and the suspects are currently assisting the police with investigations.

The arrest comes on the back of similar incidents recorded in other parts of the country.

In January 2026, the Ghana Police Service arrested five suspects in the Eastern South Region for allegedly impersonating officials of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) and extorting money from miners.

Earlier in October 2025, NAIMOS operatives dismantled illegal mining networks in the Oda River Forest Reserve and arrested armed impostors who were posing as national security operatives during a coordinated exercise.

Police have reiterated their commitment to clamping down on both illegal mining and individuals who exploit the anti-galamsey campaign for personal gain.
