Bibiani: Two Men Sentenced to 7 Years’ Hard Labour for Rape
The Bibiani Circuit Court has sentenced two men to seven years’ imprisonment each with hard labour for raping a female in Bibiani.
The court, presided over by His Honour Frank Asiedu Nimako, handed down the sentence after finding Theophilus Ankrah, 18, a tricycle rider, and Kwaku Nkrumah, 20, also known as Prince, a Plaster of Paris (POP) specialist, guilty of the offence.
Presenting the facts, Detective Chief Inspector Benjamin Agyemang told the court that the complainant, Dorothy Biri, 40, a trader and mother of the victim, reported the matter to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVSU) of the Ghana Police Service at the Bibiani Command.
According to the prosecution, on February 8, 2026, at about 6:30 p.m., the victim left home and returned around 10:00 p.m. Her mother reprimanded her and asked her to go back to where she had come from.
The victim, 15 and a JHS 1 student, later left the house and met the two accused persons at the Bibiani Hwenampori Voda House Junction. The first accused, who was riding a tricycle, stopped and asked why she was crying. After she explained her situation, the suspects took advantage of her vulnerability and lured her to their residence, where she was kept from Sunday evening until Wednesday evening.
The court heard that the accused persons engaged in repeated sexual acts with the victim during the period.
The case was subsequently reported to DOVSU, headed by ASP Evelyn Yitamkey of the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Division. A medical examination conducted by the police confirmed the victim’s account.
Following investigations, the police arrested the suspects and arraigned them before the Bibiani Circuit Court, which convicted and sentenced them accordingly.
Speaking after the judgment, ASP Evelyn Yitamkey advised parents and guardians to adopt supportive approaches towards their children rather than using harsh words that could push them into vulnerable situations.
She also cautioned the youth to be mindful of their actions, stressing that the law will deal firmly with anyone found guilty of rape and related offences.
