Suame Technical Institute Gets Lifeline from MP John Kofi Darko

The Suame Technical Institute has received a major boost with the donation of 500 dual desks and a motorbike from the Member of Parliament for the Suame Constituency, John Kofi Darko, aimed at improving teaching, learning, and the supervision of students on industrial attachment.

The presentation was made during a stakeholders’ meeting in the municipality on Friday, February 13, 2026, where the MP emphasised the importance of equipping technical institutions to prepare students for the job market and self-employment.

Speaking to the media, Hon. Darko explained that the donation followed a visit to the institute, during which management highlighted some of the key challenges affecting the school, particularly the shortage of desks.

“When I visited the school, I realised that inadequate desks were affecting effective teaching and learning. Some students had to sit in pairs, which created discomfort in the classroom. As the Member of Parliament, I deemed it necessary to intervene,” he said.

He added that supervision of students during industrial attachment had been a challenge due to limited transport for tutors.

“Technical education is largely practical. Students are posted to industries to gain hands-on experience, but supervision is crucial. The motorbike will enable our tutors to visit these industries regularly and ensure students acquire the right practical skills,” Hon. Darko explained.

The Principal of Suame Technical Institute, Mr. Ansomah Nurudeen, expressed profound gratitude to the MP, describing the gesture as timely and transformative.

He explained that the shortage of desks had been a major concern, especially during admission periods when student numbers increase.

“The desk deficit has been a serious challenge for us. Some students had to share seats, which affected their comfort and concentration. The 500 desks will greatly ease this burden and create a better learning environment,” he said.

Mr. Nurudeen also highlighted the importance of the motorbike, which will support tutors in monitoring students at various industries during practical training.

“Monitoring students on industrial attachment has been difficult due to transport constraints. This motorbike will enable our tutors to supervise them effectively and ensure the objectives of the attachment programme are achieved,” he said.

He assured the MP that the items would be properly managed and maintained to serve the school for many years, noting that the intervention would not only improve academic delivery but also boost the morale of both staff and students.

“With better classroom conditions and improved supervision of practical training, we expect stronger technical competencies and improved academic performance among our students,” Mr. Nurudeen added.

Staff and students alike have welcomed the donation, describing it as a lifeline that will significantly strengthen technical education in the Suame Municipality.
