Suame MP Invests Heavily in Skills Training, Healthcare

The Member of Parliament for the Suame Constituency, John Kofi Darko, has made a major investment in education, healthcare and skills development by distributing items worth GH¢500,000 to institutions and organised groups within the municipality.

The presentation, which took place at a stakeholders’ meeting on Friday, February 13, 2026, brought together heads of departments, assembly members and beneficiary groups who received the items on behalf of their institutions.

A major beneficiary was the Suame Technical Institute, which received 500 dual desks and a motorbike to improve teaching and learning as well as supervision of students on industrial attachment.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Darko said the donation followed visits he undertook to various institutions in the constituency to assess their operational challenges.

“After engaging with the management of these institutions, their needs were clearly outlined. As their representative, I believe it is my responsibility to support them so they can deliver quality services to our people,” he stated.

He explained that the technical institute had been grappling with a shortage of desks, which compelled some students to share seats during lessons.

“The 500 desks will significantly reduce congestion in classrooms and create a more conducive learning environment. The motorbike will also assist tutors in effectively monitoring students posted to industries for practical training,” he added.

Beyond education, the health sector also benefited from the intervention. The Suame Municipal Health Centre received an air conditioner, a refrigerator, a computer and five rechargeable lamps to enhance healthcare delivery, particularly during power outages. The Suame Municipal Hospital was presented with a computer and a refrigerator to support administrative efficiency and safe storage of essential medical supplies.

Disability groups within the municipality were supported with nine wheelchairs, one pair of arm crutches and a walking aid to improve mobility and inclusion.

In further support of skills training, 12 sewing machines were presented to seamstress apprentices to strengthen vocational education and promote self-employment among the youth.

The Suame Magazine Clinic received an air conditioner, a refrigerator and a computer to improve its operations, while the Municipal Education Directorate was equipped with two projectors, 30 laptops and 34 projector screens to enhance ICT-based teaching and learning across schools.

Additionally, 34 students were awarded scholarships to further their education, easing the financial burden on their families and expanding their academic opportunities.

The occasion was also used to launch the municipal mobile laboratory, an initiative aimed at improving science education by providing practical laboratory experience to schools that lack adequate facilities.

Hon. Darko urged all beneficiary institutions to ensure proper maintenance of the items to guarantee their longevity and maximise their impact.

He stressed that investing in education, healthcare and vocational training was key to promoting sustainable development in the Suame Municipality.

Heads of the beneficiary institutions expressed gratitude to the MP, describing the intervention as timely and impactful, and pledged to make good use of the items to improve service delivery to the people.
