9-Year-Old Drowns in Asokore Mampong Stream

A 9-year-old boy, Tawfiq Abdul-Halim, tragically drowned on Thursday, February 12, 2026, in a stream between Sawaba and Asokore Mampong.

Tawfiq, a pupil of Mahad Islamic School, had gone shepherding with his brother, who returned home later and alerted the family. A search ensued, and the boy’s body was recovered from the stream early Friday morning.

Abdul-Halim Osman, the boy’s father, spoke to SWIFTNEWS3 about the incident. A witness, Abdul Jalil, warned that this is the fourth drowning in the same stream over the past five years and urged parents to supervise their children closely.

The police have launched an investigation, and the body has been taken to the morgue.
