NPP Acclaims Baba Ali Yussif for Ayawaso East By-Election

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has unanimously acclaimed Baba Ali Yussif as its parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso East by-election scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
The decision was reached after what the party described as extensive consultations by the National Executive Committee (NEC) with key stakeholders to settle on a consensus candidate capable of winning the seat.
Following the consultations, the NEC constituted a Candidate Search Committee chaired by former General Secretary of the party, John Boadu. The committee, after engaging stakeholders in the Ayawaso East Constituency and the Greater Accra Region, unanimously recommended Baba Ali Yussif, the current Constituency Secretary of the party, as the most suitable candidate.
Subsequently, an expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting and a Delegates Conference were held in the constituency on Sunday, February 8, 2026. At the meeting, delegates unanimously endorsed and acclaimed Baba Ali Yussif as the NPP’s candidate for the by-election.
In a statement signed by the General Secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP called on its members, supporters and sympathisers to rally behind Baba Ali Yussif to ensure victory in the forthcoming election.
The party also appealed to the people of Ayawaso East to vote massively for Baba Ali Yussif, saying his candidature offers hope for effective representation and accelerated development in the constituency.
