NPP Flagbearer Hopefuls Sign Peace Pact Ahead of January 31 Presidential Primary

In a major boost to internal unity, the five presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have formally pledged to uphold peace and discipline before, during and after the party’s presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.
The commitment, sealed through a peace pact, brings together Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyepong.
Under the agreement, the aspirants affirmed that the primary process has been conducted in a transparent, inclusive and fair manner, with equal opportunity given to all contestants. They jointly pledged to accept the results of the election as a legitimate and binding reflection of the will of party delegates.
The pact also commits the candidates to desist from actions, comments or campaigns that could undermine party cohesion, while reaffirming their loyalty to the NPP irrespective of the outcome of the contest.
Crucially, the aspirants agreed to throw their full support behind the eventual winner, not only toward winning the 2028 general elections but also in the broader effort to secure a strong parliamentary majority for the party.
Any disputes arising from breaches of the agreement, the pact notes, will be addressed through the NPP’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms in accordance with the party’s constitution.
The peace pact is seen as a strategic step by the party to ensure unity and stability as it prepares for a keenly contested presidential primary.
