Four Dead as Topper Truck Crashes at Kumawu

At least four people have lost their lives following a tragic road accident at Kumawu in the Ashanti Region, after a tipper truck conveying sand for ongoing road construction works veered off the road and crashed into a roadside salon.
The fatal incident, which occurred on Saturday, January 17, 2026, claimed the lives of the salon owner, her two young children, and a customer who was inside the container shop at the time of the crash. The impact of the accident completely destroyed the structure, leaving the victims trapped with no chance of escape.
Four other persons sustained injuries, including the driver of the truck. One of the injured victims, said to be in critical condition, was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for specialized treatment, while the remaining injured persons are currently receiving medical attention at the Kumawu Government Hospital.
Preliminary information suggests that the tipper truck lost control while transporting sand from a nearby construction site before crashing into the salon.
This is not the first safety concern associated with trucks involved in the Kumawu road project. In an earlier incident, another vehicle from the same construction works reportedly ran into a mosque, although no fatalities were recorded.
The latest tragedy has sparked fear and concern among residents, who are calling on authorities and the road construction firm to urgently enforce stricter safety measures to prevent further loss of lives.
