Pragya Robber Jailed 20 Years for Brutal Wawase Bush Attack

The Bekwai Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region has sentenced Michael Antwi Boasiako to 20 years’ imprisonment for his involvement in a violent robbery attack on a tricycle, locally known as a pragya. The sentence was handed down on January 12, 2026, following a successful prosecution by the Bekwai Police.
The court found Antwi Boasiako guilty of attacking and robbing Godfred Tabi, a pragya rider, during an incident that occurred on August 14, 2025. According to the prosecution, Antwi Boasiako and another suspect, who is currently on the run, hired the victim under the pretext of being transported to Wawase to visit a cottage.
During the journey, the two men launched a sudden attack on the rider, restrained him by tying his hands and legs, and fastened him to a cocoa tree in a nearby bush. After overpowering the victim, the attackers stole his tricycle and fled the scene.
Despite the traumatic experience, Godfred Tabi managed to free himself and sought help from a nearby cottage. He later contacted his elder brother, who quickly mobilised community members to assist in rescuing him.
While searching for the suspects, the group spotted the stolen pragya being ridden by unknown persons and attempted to arrest them. One of the suspects escaped, but the other was apprehended and restrained by the group. Police officers later arrived at the scene and took custody of the suspect, who was identified as Michael Antwi Boasiako.
Following thorough investigations, Antwi Boasiako was arraigned before the Bekwai Circuit Court. Briefing journalists after the ruling, the Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Nyaaba, said the court convicted the accused on two counts and imposed a 20-year custodial sentence, which will run concurrently.
DCOP Nyaaba commended the swift response of the police and the cooperation of the public, stressing that the police remain committed to dealing decisively with violent crime in the region. He also appealed to residents to provide timely information to assist in the arrest of the accomplice, who remains at large.
