Daddy Lumba Spouse Dispute Escalates as Akosua Serwaah Heads to Appeal Court

The legal tussle surrounding the marital status of the late highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, widely known as Daddy Lumba, has taken a new turn following an appeal filed at the Court of Appeal in Kumasi by Akosua Serwaah.
Her action comes on the back of a Kumasi High Court ruling that recognised both Ms Serwaah and Priscilla Ofori, popularly referred to as Odo Broni, as the lawful surviving spouses of the celebrated musician. Dissatisfied with the outcome, Ms Serwaah is seeking to overturn the decision in its entirety.
In her notice of appeal, she argues that the High Court erred when it rejected a marriage certificate she presented to establish her claim as Daddy Lumba’s wife. According to her, the trial court’s decision to declare the document inadmissible was based on a wrong interpretation of the law.
She further contends that the court misapplied the Evidence Act, 1975 (NRCD 323), leading to an erroneous conclusion that she had failed to meet the legal requirements for admitting the marriage certificate into evidence.
Ms Serwaah is therefore urging the Court of Appeal to set aside the High Court judgment and to declare her the sole lawful surviving spouse of the late music icon, whose legacy continues to dominate public discourse even after his passing.
