Mankrong Highway Crash Claims One Life, 37 Injured

A fatal road accident at Mankrong along the busy Accra–Kumasi Highway has left one person dead and 37 others injured.

The accident occurred on Sunday, January 11, 2026, after a head-on collision between a 40-seater Zhong Tong bus, with registration number AS 7022-21, and a Man Diesel truck, with registration number GW 3969-U.

Speaking to the media, the Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), DO II Ignatius Kwamena Biadoo, said a rescue team was swiftly deployed after a distress call was received.

According to him, the team was dispatched at 6:59 a.m. and arrived at the scene at 7:07 a.m., where they carried out rescue operations.

“The crew extricated the deceased, provided assistance to the injured, and ensured the free flow of traffic,” he stated.

The injured victims, comprising 21 males and 17 females, were transported to the Suhum Government Hospital for treatment, while the occupants of the truck escaped without injuries.

Eyewitnesses at the scene alleged that the bus was speeding at the time of the crash, leading to severe damage to the front of the bus and minor damage to the rear of the truck.

The GNFS team concluded the operation at 8:57 a.m. and returned to base at 9:52 a.m., highlighting their rapid response and professionalism in handling emergency situations.
