PCC National Chairman Urges Unity, Constructive Engagement in NPP Flagbearer Race

The National Chairman of the Pentecostal Church of Christ, Apostle Dominic Nyamekye, has called on aspirants and delegates in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer race to prioritise unity, issue‑based campaigning, and national interest as the party moves towards the January 31, 2026, presidential primary.

Apostle Nyamekye, in a New Year message, also thanked God for His mercies throughout the year and extended warm greetings to church members and the public.

He appealed to NPP supporters and contestants to avoid offensive language, insults, and internal divisions that could weaken the party ahead of future elections.

“Let us avoid fights, offensive words, insults, and misunderstanding. Without common understanding, the party becomes affected,” he said, urging delegates to unite behind whoever wins the flagbearer contest. “No matter the winner, all should unite and support the person and it’ll bring about victory,” he added.

Apostle Nyamekye’s appeal comes as five prominent figures have officially filed and been cleared to contest the NPP’s flagbearer position ahead of the primaries. Among them is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President and widely regarded frontrunner. Also in the race are Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, businessman and former MP for Assin Central; Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former Minister for Food and Agriculture; Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, former Education Minister and MP for Bosomtwe; and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, former General Secretary of the party. Analysts say the contest has largely been viewed as competitive between Dr. Bawumia and Mr. Agyepong as the primaries approach.

He urged the eventual flagbearer to lead with transparency, integrity, and a servant‑leader mindset rather than seeking personal gain from political power. He also cautioned delegates against being swayed by money, urging them to choose candidates based on competence, vision, and ability to serve the nation.

While addressing political matters, Apostle Nyamekye also acknowledged the work being done by President John Dramani Mahama and encouraged positive continuity of good governance policies, urging the NPP to build on such achievements if it returns to power.

Beyond politics, the church leader drew lessons from the biblical parable of the talents, urging leaders in both church and society to be faithful, selfless, and diligent stewards of the responsibilities entrusted to them.

“God has made us leaders in the church, so we need to prove our faithfulness. The truth sets us free, but it can attract hatred. We need to rejoice in all, just as the disciples did in Scripture,” he said.

He concluded by emphasising that unity remains essential to organisational strength, warning that disunity creates opportunities for negative influences to thrive.

“Without unity, the party cannot stand. The devil acts most where there is disunity,” Apostle Nyamekye said.
