The Ashanti Regional Branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Akwasi Owusu Achiaw, a News Anchor with OTEC 102.9 FM in Kumasi.

In a statement issued and signed by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Association, Kofi Adu Domfeh, the GJA said it received the news of Achiaw’s death with shock and sadness. The respected broadcaster passed on in the early hours of Friday, December 26, 2025, after a short illness.

The Association extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the management and staff of OTEC 102.9 FM, as well as the entire media fraternity, describing the late journalist as a dedicated professional whose contribution to broadcasting would be greatly missed.

“The Ashanti Regional GJA commiserates with his family, colleagues at OTEC 102.9 FM, and all journalists who are grieving this painful loss,” the statement said.

The Association prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and asked God to grant comfort and strength to all those mourning his passing.

Akwasi Owusu Achiaw’s death adds to the growing list of media practitioners whose demise has left a significant void in Ghana’s journalism landscape.
