Lightning Strike Kills Mother, Child in Asante Mampong

A violent thunderstorm that struck the Akyeremade community in the Asante Mampong Municipality on Sunday evening has resulted in the tragic death of a mother and her five-year-old son.
The storm, which began around 5:30 p.m., was characterized by strong winds, heavy rainfall and intense lightning, causing fear and destruction in parts of the community.
Eyewitnesses said the victims were gathering pieces of charcoal in a nearby bush when they were struck by lightning during the downpour.
The deceased woman, identified only as Victoria, was 28 years old and a mother of two. Both she and her son died instantly at the scene before help could arrive.
Emergency personnel and local authorities who responded to the incident confirmed the deaths and conveyed the bodies for further official processes.
Spe.aking to Swiftnews3, the Assembly Member for the area, Mr. Nkrumah Adasah, disclosed that the deceased was unmarried and lived solely with her children, making it difficult to immediately trace her relatives.
He, however, assured that steps were being taken to establish her background and provide the necessary support for the affected family.
The tragic incident has thrown the Akyeremade community into deep mourning, as residents call for increased public education on safety during severe weather conditions, particularly during thunderstorms.
