MCE Lauds Outgoing Education Director for Transforming Atwima Kwanwoma Schools

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Atwima Kwanwoma, Hon. Grace Agyemang Asamoah, has praised outgoing Municipal Director of Education, Ms. Doris Ofori, for her exceptional leadership and tireless commitment that significantly improved educational standards in the municipality.

Speaking at a colourful send-off ceremony held at Afua Kobi Ampem Girls’ SHS, the MCE said Ms. Ofori’s dedication to duty set her apart from many public servants, noting that she “never rested but conducted intensive monitoring, engaging teachers, students and headteachers to ensure things were in the right order.”

Hon. Asamoah recounted Ms. Ofori’s deep involvement in school supervision, her personal interactions with pupils, and her determination to ensure that quality teaching and learning took place across the municipality. She emphasized that Ms. Ofori’s leadership contributed greatly to improved school performance, increased enrolment and stronger collaboration between the education directorate, teachers and the community.

The MCE, who described meeting her at work as early as 7:30 a.m. as normal, urged other public servants to emulate her discipline and work ethic. She also lamented the growing dependence of students on examination assistance and cautioned teachers against encouraging such practices.

“Teachers must stop assuring students of support during examinations. It weakens the children. They should rather encourage them to learn,” she noted. She advised students who performed poorly in the WASSCE to take advantage of remedial classes.

Ofori Bows Out After 35 Years

In her farewell address, Ms. Doris Ofori expressed gratitude to God, traditional leaders, her staff and the entire municipality for supporting her throughout her 35-year career, which she described as both challenging and fulfilling.

Having started as a classroom teacher in 1990, she highlighted the many professional experiences, friendships and major projects she encountered along the way. She praised her team for their loyalty, dedication and creativity, saying their support made her years in office rewarding.

Ms. Ofori said she leaves the service “with a heart full of gratitude and countless cherished memories,” and expressed confidence in her successor.

Chief Commends Her “Exemplary Life”

Representing the Asantehene, Nana Amponsah Kwaa IV, Chief of Atwima Kwanwoma, said Otumfuo Osei Tutu II holds Ms. Ofori in high regard for her exemplary leadership, especially in the areas of Girl-Child education and STEM advancement.

The chief highlighted her role in promoting Afua Kobi Ampem Girls’ SHS on the global stage through the UNESCO PRADA Girls’ Programme and the establishment of a STEM Clinic at the school. He further appealed to government to provide better retirement packages for hardworking education directors and urged politicians not to exert unnecessary pressure on them.

Her Legacy

During her tenure as Municipal Director of Education, Ms. Ofori championed several innovative interventions that significantly improved teaching and learning across the municipality. She introduced the Early Morning Reading Programme, encouraged officers to adopt schools to deepen supervision, strengthened monitoring structures and ensured that capacity-building workshops became a regular feature for teachers and staff.

She established both the Municipal Education Welfare Scheme and the Office Welfare Unit to improve staff motivation and support systems. She also introduced a unique municipal cloth for all GES staff to promote unity and identity. Her leadership contributed to marked improvements in BECE performance, boosted participation in the Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge, and strengthened community engagement in education. She additionally championed the Back-to-School and Re-entry campaigns, encouraging pregnant students to return and continue their education.

Gifts and Citations Presented

As part of the ceremony, various gifts and citations were presented to Ms. Ofori by chiefs, school heads, teachers, community groups and the education directorate in recognition of her outstanding service and transformational leadership. The tributes celebrated her integrity, hard work and the indelible mark she leaves on the municipality.
