MTTD Issues Strong Warning to Motorists Ahead of Christmas

The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service has issued a strong caution to motorists to strictly observe road safety regulations as the Christmas festivities approach.

Officers in the Ashanti Region say enforcement will be intensified, with no room for leniency toward offenders.

Speaking in an interview on OTEC FM, a local radio station in Kumasi, on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, the Manhyia Divisional MTTD Commander, Superintendent Mary Afenyi, said the department is fully prepared to enforce the law without interference.

“Elsewhere, police officers are allowed to work and enforce the laws. However, in Ghana, higher authorities sometimes push officers to free offenders,” she said.

According to her, the MTTD will not entertain any form of begging or appeals from motorists who break the law.

“For us at the MTTD, we are here to enforce the law. We will not tolerate any begging from offenders,” she stressed.

Superintendent Afenyi admitted that strict enforcement often attracts criticism from the public, but noted that such reactions will not stop the police from carrying out their mandate.

“The public will tag you as a wicked person when you try to enforce the law to the letter, but that will not stop us from working,” she added.

She urged the public to comply with traffic regulations to avoid trouble with the police and to help reduce road crashes during the Yuletide.
