Black Stars Drawn Against England, Croatia and Panama in 2026 World Cup

FROM Gabriel Atta-Poku

The senior national team of Ghana, the Black Stars, have been drawn against England, Croatia and Panama in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Ghana has been placed in Group L, alongside three strong opponents. England’s Three Lions remain one of the tournament favourites, Croatia continue to command respect after impressive recent World Cup performances, and Panama, making a return to the global stage, will be hoping to make an impact.

FIFA is yet to announce the venues for the group stage matches, but anticipation is already building among Ghanaian fans around the world.

The Black Stars are optimistic about progressing beyond the group stage, buoyed by the depth and quality of the current squad. With attacking talents such as Antoine Semenyo, Mohammed Kudus, and captain Jordan Ayew, Ghana possesses the firepower and creativity to trouble any defence. The team’s mix of youth, experience and tactical discipline has heightened hopes of causing upsets—just as they famously did at the South Africa 2010 World Cup, where they reached the quarter-finals and came close to making history.

Coach Otto Addo and technical handlers are expected to intensify preparations in the coming months, with several high-profile friendlies lined up to fine-tune the squad ahead of the tournament. Ghanaian supporters, both at home and in the diaspora, are rallying behind the team with renewed belief that the Black Stars can once again shine on football’s grandest stage.
