DCE Calls for Swift Support to Address Infrastructure Gaps

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South-West, Hon. Abubakar Sedik, has hailed the 10th anniversary of Wioso Senior High School as a remarkable milestone and renewed the call for urgent government and stakeholder support to address critical infrastructural deficits facing the institution.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Sedik commended the Alma Mater Charity Foundation, school management, staff, and the chiefs and people of Wioso for their unwavering dedication to promoting rural education.
He revealed that following the visit of the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, on 29th May 2025, the Ministry of Education had officially approved the absorption of Wioso Senior High School into the public education system, along with five other private institutions.

“Once the final documentation is completed, 49 teaching and non-teaching staff will be placed on the government payroll. This will greatly strengthen the human resource base of the school and ensure its long-term sustainability,” he announced.
Hon. Sedik further noted that he had personally appealed to the Minister of Education for a school bus and teachers’ quarters to enhance staff welfare and ease student mobility. He urged students to stay focused and make the most of the new opportunities ahead.

Wioso Senior High School, a rural-based institution founded by the Alma Mater Charity Foundation, continues to grapple with inadequate classrooms, lack of a science laboratory, insufficient teaching materials, and the absence of key facilities such as teachers’ accommodation and a school bus. These challenges, according to school authorities, have hindered effective teaching and learning over the years.
Mr. Dennis Oduro Akomeah, Director of External Relations and Special Projects, lamented the limited support the school has received, stressing that the absence of basic educational infrastructure undermines practical learning and affects academic performance. He however expressed gratitude to the government for initiating steps to absorb the school into the public system.

The Member of Parliament for Ahafo Ano South-West, Hon. Elvis Dapaah, who also attended the ceremony, donated 10 laptops to support the establishment of a science laboratory. He praised the founders—particularly expatriate philanthropists—and expressed satisfaction with the school’s steady growth within a decade. He encouraged residents to continue supporting the institution and avoid politicizing development initiatives.
The anniversary celebration brought together chiefs, parents, education stakeholders, partners, and past students, all of whom reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the school’s development.

As Wioso Senior High School marks 10 years, management and stakeholders remain optimistic that the coming decade will bring improved infrastructure, stronger partnerships, and enhanced opportunities for quality education in the community.
