Otumfuo Topreman Kontihene Cautions Youth Against Excessive Use of Facial Powders

Otumfuo Topreman Kontihene, Nana Opoku Karikari Okogyedom I of Atwima Kromoase, has warned Ghanaians—especially the youth—to desist from the excessive use of facial powders, popularly known as “facial poms,” cautioning that the habit poses serious risks to the skin and overall appearance.
He expressed concern that many young women have developed a routine of applying facial powders heavily and frequently, a practice he said can cause them to appear older than their true age due to the harsh effects of some cosmetic ingredients.

Nana Opoku Karikari Okogyedom I, made the remarks during a colourful traditional marriage ceremony between Michael Boakye Yiadom and Vivian Krugah at Aburaso in the Atwima Kwanwoma District on Saturday, November 22, 2025.
The Otumfuo Topreman Kontihene advised the public to prioritise natural beauty and adopt healthier skincare practices instead of resorting to cosmetic products that may damage their skin in the long term. He stressed the need for education on proper grooming habits, warning that the pursuit of unrealistic beauty standards is pushing many young people into unsafe practices.

He also urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to guide the youth, encouraging them to focus on self-confidence and moderation rather than excessive use of artificial enhancements.
Turning his attention to the newlyweds, the traditional leader urged them to uphold the virtues of respect, humility, and mutual understanding as they begin their marital journey. He emphasised that a strong and successful marriage is built on patience, honesty, and shared responsibility.
The ceremony, which attracted family members, traditional authorities, and well-wishers, showcased the rich culture of the Ashanti Kingdom through traditional wear such as kente and blessings from elders.

Notable chiefs present included Nana Kwabena Asiedu (Kyeame of Atwima Yabi, representing Kontomire Kwame Frimpong Ababio, Chief of Atwima Yabi), Kyeame Owusu Akyaw (Otumfuo Topreman Kontihene Kyeame), Nana Ofori Amanfo (Baamuhene of Atwima Yabi), and Nana Akwasi Bediako Kokodufuo (Otumfuo Topreman Kontihene Twafohene), among others.
Nana Opoku Karikari Okogyedom I, reaffirmed his commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles, cultural values, and moral discipline among the youth, urging them to channel their energy into positive endeavours that contribute to personal and community development.
