Suspected Thief Lynched at Esaso

A suspected thief has been lynched by an angry mob at Esaso in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, November 7, 2025, left the unidentified man dead, with his lifeless body later discovered in a nearby gutter. Two tricycles believed to belong to him were also set ablaze by the irate youth.

Eyewitnesses told the media that the deceased and four accomplices had allegedly attempted to steal building materials from a construction site in the community. The group was reportedly intercepted by some youth who raised an alarm.

While four of the suspects managed to flee, one was captured and subjected to severe beatings, leading to his death. His body was later found dumped in a gutter close to the scene.

Some residents justified the mob’s action, linking it to recent increases in theft and armed robbery incidents in the area.

“The youth are already agitated over the recent armed robbery cases, so I believe they acted out of anger to send a message to criminals,” a resident explained.

Meanwhile, police are yet to comment on the matter. The incident adds to the growing number of mob justice cases being recorded across the country — a trend authorities have consistently condemned, urging the public to hand suspects over to law enforcement agencies instead.
