VIDEOS: Mankranso SHS Receives GH¢10,000 Boost After Stunning NSMQ Win
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South West, Hon. Abubakar Sadik, has presented a cash donation of GH¢10,000.00 to the contestants of Mankranso Senior High School following their sensational performance in the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).
The gesture came after the school’s unprecedented victory in the quarter-final stage of the competition, where the Category C school outclassed two former champions — St. Thomas Aquinas SHS and Ghana National College — to secure a place in the semi-finals for the first time.
The contest, which took place on Thursday, October 30, 2025, ended with Mankranso SHS scoring 32 points, ahead of Ghana National College with 29 points, and St. Thomas Aquinas SHS with 26 points.
Hon. Abubakar Sadik, who made a surprise visit to the school shortly after their win, praised the students and teachers for their determination and discipline. He also toured the campus to inspect some of the school’s deteriorating infrastructure and pledged to renovate dilapidated classroom blocks and facilities to create a better environment for teaching and learning.
“This is a moment of pride not only for Mankranso SHS but for the entire district. You have shown that excellence is not limited to well-endowed schools. The assembly will continue to support you to reach even greater heights,” the DCE stated.
The school’s stunning performance has taken social media by storm, with many Ghanaians expressing amazement and searching online to find out more about the institution.
Earlier in the competition, Mankranso SHS shocked observers when they eliminated Adonten SHS, a seeded school, during the one-eighth stage — a feat that signaled their potential to make a deep run in this year’s contest.
Their latest victory has been described as one of the biggest upsets in NSMQ history, proving that determination and teamwork can overcome long-standing reputations.
As Mankranso SHS prepares for the semi-final stage, the entire Ahafo Ano South West District is rallying behind the team, hoping they can continue their fairytale journey and possibly bring home the coveted NSMQ trophy.
