High Court Dismisses Injunction Against Daddy Lumba’s Funeral

The High Court in Kumasi has ruled in favour of the family of the late music legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, allowing them to proceed with his final funeral rites scheduled for December 6, 2025.

This follows the dismissal of an interlocutory injunction application filed by the musician’s wife, Akosua Serwaa, who sought to restrain the extended family from organizing the funeral until certain family issues were settled.

Delivering her ruling on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, the presiding judge, Justice Dorinda Smith Arthur, emphasized that under Ghanaian customary law, control over the body of a deceased person rests with the family.

She noted that preventing the family from carrying out their traditional responsibilities would not serve the best interests of justice or the public.

“The application for interlocutory injunction is therefore refused,” Justice Smith Arthur stated.

The ruling paves the way for the family to continue preparations for the funeral of the highlife icon, whose passing left a deep void in Ghana’s entertainment industry.

Daddy Lumba, widely regarded as one of Ghana’s most influential musicians, will be laid to rest on December 6, 2025, in what is expected to be a grand celebration of his life and legacy.
