Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings Passes Away at 76

Ghana is mourning the loss of a remarkable stateswoman, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, who passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Ridge Hospital in Accra. She was 76 years old.

Nana Konadu, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, was widely celebrated for her decades-long dedication to women’s rights and national development. As the founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement, she played a pivotal role in empowering women across the country, promoting education, entrepreneurship, and leadership among Ghanaian women.

Her political journey also broke barriers—she became Ghana’s first female presidential candidate when she contested the 2016 elections on the ticket of the National Democratic Party (NDP), a party she helped establish.

Nana Konadu’s passing marks the end of an era for Ghanaian politics and social activism. Tributes are pouring in from across the nation, honouring her as a fearless leader, visionary reformer, and symbol of resilience for generations of women.
