Queen Mother of Mampong Nominates New Chief to Succeed Late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II

The Asante Mampong Traditional Area is set to witness a new era of leadership following the nomination of Barima Nkansa Osei-Bonsu, a computational scientist based in Germany, as the next Paramount Chief (Mamponghene).
The nomination was made by Nana Agyakoma Dufie II, the Queen Mother of Mampong, at a colourful outdooring ceremony held on Monday, October 13, 2025. The event attracted traditional leaders, elders, and residents who gathered to witness the historic moment.
According to reports by Plus 1 TV, the Queen Mother officially presented Barima Nkansa Osei-Bonsu to the people, symbolically raising his hand to confirm his selection. Jubilant cheers and traditional drumming followed, as customs dictate in such royal declarations.
The nominee is expected to swear the Oath of Service to the people of Mampong before appearing at the Manhyia Palace to take the Great Oath of Allegiance to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. This will officially seal his position as the occupant of the revered Silver Stool.
Barima Nkansa Osei-Bonsu’s nomination comes months after the passing of Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, who died on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, aged 86. The late chief, a distinguished lawyer and economist, reigned for 29 years and was widely credited with restoring peace and spearheading development in Mampong after years of chieftaincy disputes.
The Mamponghene, as the occupant of the Silver Stool, holds the second most powerful position in the Asante Kingdom and serves as Vice President of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs, next to the Asantehene.
Traditional observers describe the nomination as a step toward continuity, stability, and modernization in the Mampong Traditional Area, blending heritage with contemporary leadership.
