One-Week-Old Baby Found Dead in Toilet Pit at Suhum
A one-week-old baby boy has been found dead in a toilet pit near the Gateway Preparatory School at Ali, a suburb of Suhum in the Eastern Region.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the body was retrieved on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, following a distress call placed at about 6:30 a.m. Fire officers successfully removed the body around 7:00 a.m.
A statement signed by the Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer, DOII Ignatius Kwame Naidoo, revealed that preliminary investigations point to the baby’s mother as the prime suspect. She is alleged to have committed the act before fleeing the scene.
The body has since been handed over to the police for further investigation.
The GNFS commended the Suhum Fire Rescue team for their swift response and professionalism in managing the incident.
