Police Nab Ashtown Murder Suspect, Father for Hiding Him

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested Baker, a 21-year-old man accused of stabbing his friend, Kwadwo Bright, to death during a quarrel over a plastic chair at Ashanti New Town (Ashtown) in Kumasi.

Baker, who had been on the run since the incident on September 4, 2025, was apprehended on September 20, 2025, at the Kumasi Railway Market, where he was allegedly being kept in hiding by his father. The father was also arrested after police found that he had concealed his son in his store and secretly supplied him with food.

The arrest brings to an end a two-week manhunt for the suspect, whose alleged attack left Bright, 20, dead. Witnesses said the two friends had argued at a snooker centre, but although the disagreement appeared to have been resolved, Baker later stabbed Bright in the neck.

The victim was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. His mother, Georgina Yeboah, who rushed to the scene, described the incident as devastating.

Police say both father and son are in custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations. The case has sparked public outrage in Kumasi, with calls for swift justice.
