Simon Denies Allegations, Insists He Helped Police Arrest Fake Soldiers

Simon, a small-scale miner in the Atwima Mponua District, has strongly denied reports linking him to a recent robbery incident at Amadaa, where four men posing as military officers allegedly attacked and robbed a group of illegal miners.

According to earlier police reports, Simon was accused of masterminding the operation and collaborating with the suspects, which included two Chinese nationals and three Ghanaians. But in a statement issued through close associates, Simon has distanced himself from the allegations, describing them as “false and damaging to my reputation.”

Simon explained that far from being involved in the crime, he was instrumental in aiding the Nkawie Police Command in arresting the suspects on Wednesday, September 3.

“I was the one who used my vehicle to block the escape of the suspects, which allowed the police to effect the arrest,” Simon said. “To suggest that I planned or benefitted from this act is completely untrue. I have always supported law enforcement in ensuring peace and security in my community.”

He further called on the police to conduct a thorough investigation and verify facts before drawing conclusions. “I am not on the run as has been reported. I am available and ready to assist the police with any information they may require to bring the real culprits to justice,” he added.

Residents of Amadaa have confirmed that Simon was at the scene during the operation and reportedly assisted in restraining the suspects until the police arrived.

Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Police Command has taken over the case due to the involvement of foreign nationals. The four suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.

Simon has appealed to the public to disregard what he describes as “baseless claims” and reiterated his commitment to cooperating fully with authorities.
