A Queen Mother Remembered
Nana Konadu Yiadom III, the 17th Asantehemaa, was enstooled in 2017 as mother of the Asante Kingdom. She dedicated her reign to upholding tradition, promoting education, empowering women, and preserving Asante culture and heritage.
Born in 1937, she was the eldest sister of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene. Until her enstoolment, she was known for her strong influence in palace affairs and her role as a unifying figure for the royal family and Asanteman.
The revered queen mother passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the age of 97. Her passing was met with deep sorrow across Ghana and beyond, with tributes pouring in to honour her as a pillar of wisdom, tradition, and maternal guidance for the kingdom.
As Kumasi prepares to host thousands of mourners, the final rites of Nana Konadu Yiadom III are expected to be among the most historic events in the recent history of the Asante Kingdom.
