Passenger Attacks Uber Driver, Escapes With Car at Barekese

Police in the Ashanti Region are on a manhunt for a passenger who allegedly attacked an Uber driver with a machete and bolted with his vehicle at Barekese in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District.
The victim, Kwadwo Antwi, 30, had picked up the passenger from Abrepo Junction in Kumasi to Barekese on the evening of Sunday, August 31, when the incident occurred.
On reaching a section of the road, the passenger reportedly pulled out a cutlass and inflicted deep wounds on the driver’s hand and lap. Antwi’s father, Master Alex, told this reporter that his son struggled to unfasten his seat belt before managing to escape from the moving car.
The suspect, after pushing the injured driver out, sped away with the Toyota Vitz, registration number AS 7104-22.
Antwi was later rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), where he is receiving treatment.
The police have confirmed the incident and say investigations are underway to apprehend the suspect.
