Kotoko Edge Gold Stars to Win Champion of Champions on 90th Anniversary

Kumasi Asante Kotoko marked their 90th anniversary in grand style after defeating Bibiani Gold Stars to lift the Champion of Champions trophy at the Dunnn Park on Sunday afternoon.
The clash, which pitted the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League winners, Gold Stars, against FA Cup champions, Kotoko, served as the curtain-raiser to the upcoming football season.
A cagey first half ended goalless, with the home side, Gold Stars, dominating possession but failing to break down Kotoko’s defense.
The Porcupine Warriors, however, came alive in the second half through their new signing, Issah Hamzata. The former Accra Lions forward, who recently signed a three-year deal with Kotoko after his side’s relegation, fired home the decisive goal to secure victory.
The result not only hands Kotoko the Champion of Champions title but also provides a much-needed boost for head coach Karim Zito, who had been under pressure following his side’s poor outing in the recently concluded Top Four tournament at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
For Kotoko, the win represents their third straight triumph in finals appearances and sets a positive tone ahead of the new Ghana Premier League season, which kicks off on September 12, 2025.
Both clubs will now turn their attention to continental duties, with Bibiani Gold Stars set to compete in the CAF Champions League, while Asante Kotoko represent Ghana in the CAF Confederation Cup.
