Government Delivers on Promise as Refurbished Kotokuom Bridge Commissioned

The refurbished Kotokuom Bridge in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region has been officially commissioned, bringing relief to commuters, farmers, and traders who for years endured hardships due to the bridge’s deplorable state.
At a ceremony held at the Kotokuom R/C Park on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways and MP for Tamale North, Hon. Alhassan Suhuyini, said the project was a direct response to concerns raised when distressing images of the damaged bridge went viral on social media.
“Your voices were heard, and your concerns became our command,” he said, adding that the refurbished bridge reflects the government’s Big Push Agenda to expand roads and bridges nationwide and ensure no community is left behind.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, reminded residents that President John Dramani Mahama had promised to fix the bridge when its condition first gained public attention. He urged the community to protect the infrastructure and use it for its intended purpose.
District Chief Executive, Hon. Ibrahim Issahak, also highlighted the economic importance of the project, noting that the old bridge had severely affected cocoa transport, trading, and access to social services. He expressed gratitude to government, local authorities, and residents for their support.
The commissioning ceremony drew traditional leaders, Assembly members, and community members, who welcomed the bridge as a game-changer for transportation and economic growth in the district.
