VIDEOS: Youth Violence Leaves One Stabbed at Ayinamso I
Tensions flared at Ayinamso I in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region last Saturday when a confrontation between rival groups of young men turned violent, leaving a 20-year-old man with serious injuries.
The victim, Dennis Kwaku Fosu, suffered a deep cut to the back of his neck after a fight broke out between residents of Ayinamso I and youth believed to have come from Mpasatia Beposo and neighbouring Serebuoso.
Reports indicate that the violence was sparked by an earlier misunderstanding on Friday, August 15, when a group of young men from Mpasatia clashed with locals during a visit to the community. The following day, an attempt to “resolve” the matter rather escalated into a full-blown fight.
Eyewitnesses alleged that reinforcements were called in from Serebuoso to support the Mpasatia youth. Some residents claimed both groups are notorious for relying on charms they believe protect them from cutlass and knife wounds.
“Unfortunately for Dennis, the charm did not work for him. He was attacked from behind and slashed with a knife, which left him bleeding heavily,” a resident told this reporter.
Fosu was rushed to the Frimpong Medical Center at Toase, where he was treated for the injury. He has since been discharged but remains in pain, according to his family.
When asked about the incident, Dennis said he followed his friends to Ayinamso I without knowing their real intentions. “I didn’t realize they were going to fight. I was only trying to avoid the confusion when someone attacked me from behind,” he explained.
District Police have launched investigations into the case. Sources say the main suspect managed to escape when residents attempted to arrest him. As of press time, no arrests had been made.
The victim’s father, Kwaku Badu, has called on the Ghana Police Service to pursue the case diligently and ensure justice is served. He further appealed to the public to support law enforcement by providing information that could lead to the arrest of the culprits.
