Video: 2 Dead, 13 Injured in Fatal Crash on Kwanfifi-Betinko Highway

Tragedy struck on the Kwanfifi-Betinko highway in the Atwima Mponua District on Friday evening when a sprinter bus and a timber truck were involved in a fatal head-on collision. The accident, which occurred around 7:30 p.m., claimed the lives of two people instantly and left 13 others with varying degrees of injuries.
According to eyewitness accounts, the crash was so severe that it drew dozens of residents from nearby Kwanfifi, who rushed to the scene to offer assistance. One of the eyewitnesses, Mr. Isaac Kyei Manu, recounted hearing a loud bang before discovering the mangled remains of the two vehicles in the middle of the road.
The sprinter bus, with registration number AS-630-20, was badly damaged at the front, while the timber truck, which reportedly had no number plate, was left wrecked on the highway. Mr. Manu suspects that one of the drivers may have dozed off at the wheel, leading to the tragic collision.
Emergency services, supported by community members, swiftly moved to rescue the trapped victims. The critically injured were rushed to the Frimpong Boateng Medical Centre, where they are receiving treatment. The bodies of the deceased have since been deposited at the facility’s morgue.
Police in the Atwima Mponua District have launched investigations into the cause of the accident. Meanwhile, authorities are urging drivers who ply the Kwanfifi-Betinko stretch to exercise extra caution, as the road is known for its sharp curves and poor lighting at night.
The incident has left residents of Kwanfifi and surrounding communities in shock, with many calling for improved road safety measures and increased police patrols to help reduce accidents on the busy stretch.
