Gold Stars Set for Historic CAF Champions League Debut Against Algeria’s JS Kabylie

Ghanaian champions Gold Stars are bracing themselves for a historic first appearance in the CAF Champions League, with a mouth-watering Preliminary Round clash against Algerian giants JS Kabylie.

The Miners, who stunned Ghanaian football this year by clinching their maiden Ghana Premier League title, will begin their continental adventure away from home. They are set to travel to the Algerian capital, Algiers, for the first leg, scheduled between 19 and 21 September 2025. The return leg will be staged in Ghana a week later, from 26 to 28 September.

Their debut marks the culmination of a remarkable domestic campaign that saw Gold Stars defy the odds to dethrone established league heavyweights. This achievement has not only brought pride to their hometown but also placed them firmly in the spotlight on Africa’s grandest football stage.

JS Kabylie, a seasoned North African powerhouse with multiple continental titles to their name, will provide a stern test for the Ghanaian newcomers. Known for their passionate fan base and rich history in African competitions, the Algerian side will be looking to assert their dominance early in the tie.

Should Gold Stars emerge victorious over the two legs, they will advance to the Second Preliminary Round, scheduled for 17–19 October, with the decisive return fixtures taking place from 24–26 October. Progress from there would secure them a place in the coveted group stage of the competition.

Club officials and fans alike are rallying behind the team, hopeful that their fairy-tale journey in the domestic league can be replicated on the continental front. Head coach and players have already indicated their readiness to embrace the challenge, promising to play with the same grit and determination that powered them to league glory.

For the people of Ghana and especially the Gold Stars faithful, September cannot come soon enough. The stage is set, the stakes are high, and the dream of making a mark in African football’s most prestigious competition is well within reach.
