Renewed Gang Clash at Mpasaaso Leaves One Dead, Pregnant Woman Among 3 Injured

A violent gang clash at Mpasaaso No. 1 and No. 2 in the Ahafo Ano South-West District of the Ashanti Region has left one person dead and three others critically injured, including a pregnant woman, sparking fear and tension in the community.
The incident, which occurred around 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, has forced many farmers to abandon their farms, while frightened students are staying away from school. Residents say Mpasaaso, known for farming and small-scale mining, has suffered recurring clashes, but the latest attack is among the most brutal in recent years.
Following the fatal shooting, the attackers allegedly stormed the residence of the Queen Mother of Mpasaaso No. 2, destroying property and ransacking her room in what witnesses described as a deliberate act of intimidation.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Dwamena Mensah, Abusuapanin (family head) of Mpasaaso No. 2, decried the persistent attacks and accused authorities of negligence.
“This is not the first time such an incident has happened here. We’ve made countless complaints, but no arrests have ever been made. The situation keeps getting worse,” he lamented.
An eyewitness, Collins Appiah Afrifa, also voiced anger over the lack of police action.
“We’ve reported everything to the Police Commander at Mankranso, but still nothing has been done. We don’t trust the police anymore. If authorities in the region don’t act swiftly, we will be forced to protect ourselves,” he warned.
Youth Leader Kwadwo Asare accused the District Chief Executive (DCE), Abubakar Saddick, of complicity, alleging that the attackers boast of his support.
“The thugs themselves say they have the support of the DCE. We are giving him up to Friday to provide us protection or we’ll defend ourselves,” Asare said.
Residents are now calling on the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to intervene urgently to restore peace and protect lives and property in the troubled community.
