President Mahama Reaffirms Commitment to Ashanti Region; Pledges to Complete Key Development Projects

President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to the people of the Ashanti Region, pledging to complete all viable and inherited projects as part of his government’s national development agenda.
Speaking during his “Thank You Tour” in Kumasi on Wednesday, the President praised the vital role of the Ashanti Region in Ghana’s socioeconomic progress and acknowledged the dedication of the youth and women who mobilized across communities during the 2024 general election.
“The tireless efforts of our youth and women who moved from community to community with unmatched passion were instrumental to our campaign’s success. Their energy continues to inspire our mission to build a better Ghana,” the President stated.
President Mahama described the Ashanti Region as a critical engine of Ghana’s economy, endowed with abundant resources including gold, cocoa, and timber. However, he expressed concern over the region’s infrastructure deficits and unfulfilled development promises.
“Once revered as the Garden City of West Africa, Kumasi today faces significant urban challenges—traffic congestion, waste mismanagement, poor roads, and overstretched infrastructure. Many essential projects have stalled for far too long,” he noted.
The President cited the abandoned Afari Military Hospital, the underutilized KNUST Medical Centre, and other incomplete initiatives as clear examples of neglect that his government is determined to address.
“In Ashanti and across Ghana, we are building a government of continuity and results. No viable project—no matter which administration started it—will be left to rot. We are committed to completing them for the benefit of our people,” he emphasized.
President Mahama announced that the following projects will be prioritized and fast-tracked:
Kejetia Market Redevelopment: Contractors have been directed to accelerate progress. “With the blessing of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, we aim to commission this market by next year,” he said.
Suame Interchange: Construction will proceed under the “Big Push” initiative.
Krofrom and Mamponteng Markets: Completion targeted for 2026.
Afari Military Hospital and Sewua Regional Hospital: To be completed to enhance healthcare delivery.
Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital’s Maternity and Children’s Block: Set for full rehabilitation and completion.
Baba Yara Sports Stadium: To undergo full-scale renovation to meet modern standards.
President Mahama reaffirmed that his administration stands for action, not rhetoric. “The people of the Ashanti Region—and Ghana as a whole—deserve better. We are here to deliver results, not promises,” he declared.
The President’s visit forms part of a nationwide tour aimed at expressing gratitude to the electorate and outlining key areas of development focus under his renewed mandate.
