“Fix Our Roads Now” – Dunkwahene Appeals to President Mahama

The Paramount Chief of Dunkwa, Okoforubour Obeng Nuako III, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to urgently address the deteriorating road network within the Dunkwa enclave, describing the situation as a major threat to both economic development and public safety.
Speaking at the Akwasidae festival on Sunday, the chief stressed that several key roads in the area—including Dunkwa-Obuasi, Dunkwa-Ayanfuri, Dunkwa-Fosu, Dunkwa-Kyekyewere, and Twifo Praso–Cape Coast—are in deplorable condition and in need of immediate government intervention.
“Our roads are lifelines. When they are neglected, our livelihoods, safety, and the local economy all suffer,” he said.
Robbery Concerns and Halted Projects
Nana Nuako warned that the poor road conditions have also emboldened criminals, especially armed robbers, who exploit the situation to ambush travelers and terrorize residents.
He reminded the public of President Mahama’s earlier promise to complete the Twifo Praso–Cape Coast road if elected. Now that he is in office, the chief urged him to fulfill that commitment to the people of Denkyira.
“This is not just about convenience—it’s about safety, trust, and progress,” Nana Nuako added.
Traditional Authority Backs New Police Commander
Meanwhile, the new Dunkwa Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent David Ashong, paid a courtesy call on the chief during the event. Nana Nuako pledged the full support of the traditional council in enhancing security across the Dunkwa enclave.
“We will work hand-in-hand with the police to ensure peace and safety for all,” he assured.
Call to Action
The chief’s appeal adds to growing concerns across many rural communities about the state of Ghana’s road infrastructure and its impact on development. Residents are hopeful that President Mahama’s administration will take swift action to bring relief.
