Ashanti Regional Minister Calls for Urgent Revival of Abandoned Nyinahin Sports Complex

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has called for immediate action to revive the long-abandoned Nyinahin Sports Complex, describing its current state as a tragic waste of a facility with enormous potential for youth development and regional growth.
Dr. Amoakohene made the remarks during an inspection tour of the complex alongside the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, and officials from the National Sports Authority. The visit was part of a broader effort by government to assess the condition of key sports infrastructure in the Ashanti Region.
Speaking to journalists after the tour, the Regional Minister expressed disappointment over the stalled project, which has remained incomplete for several years despite the significant financial investment made. He lamented the neglect of a facility originally envisioned to unearth and nurture sporting talent in the region.
“It is unacceptable for a project of this magnitude, meant to benefit our youth and promote sports, to be left to rot,” Dr. Amoakohene said. “Our youth deserve better. Ashanti deserves better.”
He emphasized the need for a united front involving government agencies, the private sector, and local stakeholders to revive and complete the project. According to him, the revival of the Nyinahin Sports Complex will serve as a catalyst for sporting excellence and create opportunities for the youth in the region.
Dr. Amoakohene and the delegation from the Sports Ministry and National Sports Authority have pledged to work together on a roadmap to restore the facility. The Minister also revealed plans to engage corporate bodies and traditional leaders to garner support for the rehabilitation process.
Hon. Kofi Adams, who accompanied the Regional Minister, reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to investing in sports infrastructure across the country, starting with critical facilities like Nyinahin. He assured that the Ministry would prioritize the completion of the complex as part of a renewed national strategy to boost sports development.
The Nyinahin Sports Complex, when completed, is expected to provide training grounds, recreational areas, and competitive facilities to support young athletes and attract major sporting events to the region.
The Ashanti Regional Minister’s call to action has been welcomed by residents and sports enthusiasts who believe the revival of the complex will breathe new life into the local sports ecosystem. The project, once back on track, is projected to become a major asset in Ghana’s sports development agenda.
