Tragic End: Man Crushed to Death by Overloaded Tricycle in Atwima Mponua

A routine trip to transport wood from a nearby farm ended in tragedy at Bedabour in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region, when a 52-year-old man, Salisu Adamu, was crushed to death by an overturned tricycle, commonly known as Aboboyaa.

The heartbreaking incident occurred on the morning of Wednesday, June 25, around 7:45 a.m., when the deceased and a 26-year-old tricycle rider, Kwaku Ampong, set off to retrieve timber from a local farm. After loading more than forty logs onto the tricycle, Mr. Adamu reportedly climbed on top of the pile to accompany the driver back to the community.

However, midway through their return on a narrow, bushy path, the heavily laden tricycle lost balance and toppled. The pile of logs collapsed, burying Salisu Adamu underneath.

With no one around to assist, the young rider, himself injured in the fall, rushed back to Bedabour to seek help. Some community members quickly followed him to the accident scene, where they managed to remove the logs, only to discover that Salisu had already died.

In a state of panic and shock, the group allegedly covered the body with leaves and left without immediately informing the authorities.

Hours later, at about 4:00 p.m., word of the incident reached a local journalist, Akwasi Nkansah, based in Mpasatia and affiliated with Kumasi-based Angel FM. Upon arrival at Bedabour, Nkansah urged the residents to formally report the matter to the police.

Following his advice, the rider and some community members reported the case to the Nkawie District Police. Officers then accompanied them to the scene, retrieved the deceased’s body, and conveyed it to the Afari Community Hospital mortuary.

Meanwhile, the family of the deceased, a practicing Muslim, is making arrangements to claim the body for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

Police have since launched investigations into the matter.
