Student Gives Birth Whiles Writing BECE

A dramatic and emotional scene unfolded at the Asenua Presbyterian Junior High School Examination Centre in Mamponteng, located in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region, when a pregnant candidate sitting for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) gave birth in the middle of the exam.
The young candidate, whose identity is being withheld for privacy reasons, delivered a healthy baby boy. The unexpected incident has drawn significant public attention and sparked widespread concern, with many questioning the conditions and support systems in place for pregnant schoolgirls pursuing their education.
While the incident has stirred debate on adolescent pregnancy and access to reproductive health education, it has also highlighted the determination of some young girls to complete their basic education despite daunting personal challenges.
Authorities have yet to confirm whether the student will be allowed to continue with the remaining papers, but there is growing public support for her to be given a fair opportunity.
