Pastor Disowns Son For Engaging In Homosexuality

Reverend Joseph Appiah, a Ghanaian popular pastor, has officially disowned his son, Ernest Appiah, for engaging in acts of homosexuality.
Rev. Appiah, who resides at Plot 20, Block M, Sewuah Junction in Atonsu—a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region—made this declaration before a Notary Public at FY.A LAW FIRM (Adum, Kumasi), under the Statutory Declarations Act, 1971 (Act 389).
Providing further details, he stated that Ernest Appiah was born in Kumasi on 14th April 1999 to his mother, Grace Asare. Rev. Appiah explained that he has taken the difficult decision to disown his son due to his continued involvement in homosexuality. Despite his repeated efforts to advise and counsel Ernest over the years, his son has ignored all warnings.
He further disclosed that sometime last year, Ernest was nearly lynched by a group of young men in Atonsu after being caught in the act. “This behavior has damaged my reputation and undermined my moral standing as a religious leader,” he said.
The action by this Man of God in not strange to many Ghanaians as LGBTQ people in Ghana face severe challenges not experienced by non-LGBTQ residents.
In Sexual acts between males have been illegal as “unnatural carnal knowledge” in Ghana since the colonial era. The majority of Ghana’s population hold anti-LGBTQ sentiments. Physical and violent homophobic attacks against LGBTQ people occur, and are often encouraged by the media and religious and political leaders.
